Men’s Basketball Scores Wire-to-Wire Win over Green Bay

BOZEMAN, Mont. - UC Riverside scored a 74-68 win over Green Bay on Tuesday night at Worthington Arena in the first of UCR's two games at the Montana State-hosted multi-team event.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UC Riverside went 7 for 12 from the field to end the first half and take a 38-33 lead into the break behind nine points from Isaiah Moses
  • The Highlanders led by as many as nine in the first half after Wil Tattersall sank a triple with just under seven minutes remaining until halftime.
  • UCR's transition defense was a major contributing factor towards the halftime lead. The Highlanders held a 6-0 advantage in fast break points and a 6-1 advantage in steals at the break.
  • Vladimer Salaridze hit a jumper to cap an 8-0 Highlander run just before the first media break of the second half. Barrington Hargress followed it up with his first three of the night just as Green Bay was closing in behind the Highlanders.
  • The lead only grew as the second half wound down, as the Highlanders opened their first double digit lead on a pair of free throws from Kyle Owens and extended it with a Hargress layup. The latter bucket forced a Green Bay timeout after UCR rendered the Phoenix scoreless for the previous 4:26.
  • Moses sank the final two of his career-high 22 points from the free throw line with 14 seconds left to help push UCR over the line after Green Bay mounted a comeback attempt.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

  • UC Riverside used a 16-3 run late in the second half to pull away from a five-point lead at halftime.
  • Moses laid claim to UCR's first individual 20-point performance this season while multiple Highlanders scored north of 10 points for the fifth time in as many games this season.
  • UCR is now 5-1 on a neutral floor dating back to last season.

FROM COACH MAGPAYO

  • "We have a team full of competitors. We have 'spurtability,' I've been saying. It's just a matter of our team getting a rhythm and stringing together good stretches of basketball."

UP NEXT

  • UC Riverside will finish off its brief trip to Montana on Wednesday, November 22 with a 7:00 p.m. tip against event host Montana State at Worthington Arena.
