Highlanders Drop Wednesday’s Contest at Montana State

BOZEMAN, Mont. - UC Riverside fell 69-68 to Montana State on Wednesday night at Worthington Arena to finish a brief stint at the MSU-hosted multi-team event.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • UC Riverside started 7 of 11 from the floor in Wednesday's contest with threes from Isaiah Moses and Ben Griscti and limited the Bobcats to 1 of 8 from the field to end the half. 
  • The Highlanders held a narrow 29-28 edge at halftime behind a balanced scoring effort and a 21-10 rebounding advantage. 
  • Nate Pickens responded to a Montana State three with a triple of his own, giving the Highlanders a 41-38 lead at 15:09 of the second half. 
  • Kaleb Smith briefly put a stop to the Bobcats' momentum with a three at 9:58 of the second half. Barrington Hargress then cut the lead to a single possession with a nifty up and under move for the layup at 5:32. 
  • Niyi Olabode converted the and-one at 4:08 while the Highlanders held Montana State without a field goal for 4:41. Back-to-back threes from Vladimer Salaridze and Isaiah Moses helped the UCR offense continue to push forward down the stretch.  

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS 

  • UC Riverside's 41 rebounds were the second most in a game this season. UCR put in a balanced rebounding effort on Wednesday with six Highlanders recording at least four rebounds. On the other side of the floor, UCR yielded the fewest rebounds in a game this season at 25. 
  • Moses went 5 for 8 from deep while dishing out four assists and grabbing four rebounds.
