Highlanders Run Away with Win over Bethesda

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside exploded offensively on Sunday afternoon for a 109-63 win over Bethesda at the SRC Arena.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • UC Riverside opened the game on a scorching 13-4 run, holding Bethesda to just 2-of-11 shooting at the first media timeout.  
  • Wil Tattersall was a force from distance early on with a pair of threes as the Highlanders finished the half with a 13-2 run going into the break.  
  • UCR did the majority of its damage inside with 34 points in the paint at halftime.  
  • Seven Highlanders had notched multiple rebounds at the halftime intermission. Ben Griscti continued to impress on the boards with a team-high six at the break. Griscti continued to excel in the second half but at the rim this time, with 10 of his 14 points coming after the break.  

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Chip Brunt, Jayden Mojica and Clancy Bird all made their UCR debuts on Sunday. Brunt and Jhaylon Martinez led the bench with 12 points each while Martinez notched a double double, adding 10 rebounds.  
  • UCR hit the century mark for the second year in a row while improving to 9-1 at home in non-conference play under Mike Magpayo.  
  • The Highlanders nearly blanked Bethesda in second-chance points with a 25-4 advantage and shot 85.7 percent from the free throw line.
