Highlanders Complete Day One in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - UC Riverside completed the first two rounds of the spring season at the Valley Invitational, held at the Bakersfield Country Club.Â
After 36 holes, the Highlanders are tied with UC Irvine for sixth out of a 13-team field. Vanessa Betancourt (76-74-150) leads the UCR lineup after a day in Bakersfield, currently in a tie for 11th.Â
Betancourt shot a 76 in round one and bogeyed three of her last four holes on the front nine, but went bogey free on the back nine of round two for a strong finish to her day. Meanwhile, Nicole Le (79-74-153) sits in a tie for 24th. Le carded one birdie across the first 18 holes, but picked up five in round two with three of those four on par 5s.Â
Le and Gabrielle Kiger (83-74-157) accounted for 12 of UCR's 17 birdies on the day. Kiger is competing as an individual this week and goes into round three tied for 43rd.Â
Round three will get underway from the Bakersfield Country Club on Tuesday morning with live results available on Golfstat.
