RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside hosted its first of two track meets this weekend at the UC Riverside Track Stadium, posting top marks in a full weekend of action in Riverside, at CSU San Marcos'Â Mangrum Invitational and at UCLA's Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational.
Monea Jennings finished third in the women's heptathlon with 4,165 points over two days of competition. Jennings was a top-two finisher in three of the seven events, including a win in the long jump with a 5.39m that shattered her collegiate best of 5.21m set at last year's Bryan Clay Invitational. Jennings also took second in the 100mH with a 14.52 - good for eighth all-time - and high jump with a 1.55m. The junior's high jump was just 0.4m off her collegiate best set earlier this season at the MPSF Championships and is a new top mark for UC Riverside this season.Â
Liam Wallace-Harper placed second in the 110mH with a time of 15.87, and was also runner up in the pole vault at 3.85m. The freshman finished out the Spring Classic with a 28.12m in the javelin and a 4:59.69 in the men's 1500m for second.
Down south, Carolinh Calvert finished second in the 1500m at the Mangrum Invitational with a time of 4:34.49 while Riley Jones finished ninth in 4:42.82.
Kyan Thomas won the men's triple jump with a mark of 48-8 feet, good for a new PR and number eight on the program's all-time list. Melanie Ceballos jumped a lifetime best of 19-0ft, placing 3rd overall.Â
Andrew Jackson ran 1:50.46 in the 800 good for number four in UCR history, while Ray Olukoju (55.75) and Jacoby Madise (10.71) also slid into the eighth spot in the 400 and 100, respectively.Â
On the distance side, Noah Murasmith's 9:14.90 in the steeplechase landed at number three in UCR history, while on the women's side, Norma Alvarez's ~22 second personal best at 10:37.52 won the event and took fourth in school history. Lance Denhalter and Tyler Kaan also both hit USATF U20 qualifiers in the 1500 at 3:52.13 and 3:53:15 respectively.
UCR saw a pair of top-10 finishes in the men's and women's 10k, highlighted by Victoria Ervin's 38:01.79 at the Mangrum Invitational. At UCLA, JT Ober III turned in a 57.19m in the javelin throw for first.
UC Riverside will next compete from March 31 to April 1 with three meets in that span, heading to the Mike Fanelli Classic at San Francisco State, as well as the Stanford Invitational and Vince O'Boyle Invitational.Â
