IRVINE, Calif. - UC Riverside track & field turned in another stellar performance at the Vince O'Boyle Classic and Mangrum Invitational with eight top-10 marks across both meets.
Aaron Fruge, Kazu Kimura, Andrew Robinson, and Elijah Yoshinaga went 1-2-3-4 in the men's long jump to kick off day one in Irvine. Fruge won the event with a 7.34m/24-01.00 to secure his second outdoor long jump win of the year.
Yuchua Yang moved up to seventh all-time in the men's outdoor hammer throw, recording a 54.32m/178-02.00 on his final attempt. On the women's side, Addy Hackett placed second (48.94m/16-06.00) while Gabriella Colon-Gipson took fourth (46.21m/151-7.00).
Colon-Gipson also posted a new season best of 13.61m/44-08.00 in the women's shot put on her second attempt.
Down south at the Mangrum Invitational, Baptiste Garderes won the 3000s in 9:18.69 for seventh all-time. Marissa Hehir placed fourth on the women's side with an 11:20.07. Joy Weber, Lexi Corvese, and Ingrid Tamayo went 3-4-5 in the women's 5000m while Finn Babbitt (14:55.23) won on the men's side. Fellow freshman Eshaan Hussain finished fourth.
Garderes shifted focus to Irvine for day two, where he set a new team season best in the 1500m with a 3:57.80.
Day two of the Vince O'Boyle Classic kicked off with the Highlanders' second straight women's 4x100m relay win, clocking a 45.38 to lower the program's meet record and move into second all-time. Lily Woolery and Morgan Nygren took fifth and sixth, respectively, in the women's 800m while the freshman trio of Caleb Pascua, JJ, Juarez, and Anthony Barrera went 2-3-4 in the men's 800m.
Raykiyat Olukoju (11.63), Natalia Carrillo (11.69), and Kendall Dorton (11.83) all lowered their 100m marks for the season while Carrillo and Dorton entered the all-time top 10. UCR picked up heat wins from Jacoby Madise (10.51) and Kazu Kimura (10.89) on the men's side. Madise moved up to second all-time in the process.
Zoé Lamur moved up to eighth all-time with a 1:03.54 in the 400m hurdles before Olukoju improved her 200m meet record with a 23.50. Carrillo lowered her 200m mark with a 24.09. Spencer Hotch set a new season mark in the 200m with a 21.92, and Lexi Corvese later dropped her 1500m time to 4:41.35.
Chelsea Aninyei tied her No. 3 all-time mark in the triple jump (12.85m/42-02.00) while Aaron Fruge won the men's long jump, giving UCR its first two event wins.
The Highlanders capped off another successful Vince O'Boyle Classic with a 4x400m relay sweep, clocking 3:42.11 for the women (10th all-time) and 3:17.44 for the men.
UC Riverside heads to Northern California next weekend for the Mike Fanelli Track Classic and Stanford Invitational.
