RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside racked up 11 event wins, three school records, and a smattering of top-10 marks on a blistering Saturday at the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic.
UCR started the day with a pair of Big West qualifying field results. Addy Hackett placed second in the women's hammer throw (49.35m/161' 11") to improve her lifetime best from this month's RCC Invitational, while Yuchua Yang won the men's hammer throw with a 54.06m/177' 4" for eighth in program history.
Also securing conference berths were Andrew Robinson (7.10m/23-3.50) and Kazu Kimura (7.48m/24-06.50) in the men's long jump. Kimura also won the high jump at the end of the night.
Kimura, Aaron Fruge, and Robinson went 1-2-3 in the men's long jump, while Nyah Fields, Chelsea Aninyei, and Santia Ali went 3-4-5 in the women's long jump.
Kamea Hunter, Raykiyat Olukoju, D'Lainey Nakamoto, and Natalia Carrillo set a UCR record in the first running event of the hot afternoon with a 44.95 in the women's 4x100m relay. Olukoju, Hunter, Nakamoto, Carrillo, and Kendall Dorton went 1-2-3-4-5 in the women's 100m.
Hunter (11.71), Nakamoto (11.73), and Carrillo (11.83) all logged top-10 marks in the women's 100m. Jacoby Madise then won the men's 100m before breaking UCR's outdoor men's 200m record with a meet-record 21.14.
Maxwell Jefferson joined the UCR winners' circle with a 14.49 in the men's 110m hurdles.
Michael Petrick cracked the men's outdoor 200m top 10 with a 21.55, and Dorton, Hunter, and Carrillo all made the list on the women's side.
Mallik Bolton, Spencer Hotch, and Andrew Garcia clocked top-10 times in the men's 400m while Mercy Ehiemere and Diyana Hackley improved their times on the women's side.
Vanessa Chavira placed second in the women's 400m hurdles with a Big West-qualifying 63.25, good for sixth in program history. Zoé Lamur claimed ninth all-time with a 64.39.
The Highlanders' women's 4x200m relay team broke the day's third program record, while the men placed second in program history.
UCR will look to build on the momentum with next weekend's Vince O'Boyle Classic from UC Irvine.
