RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside played the first game of a three-game series with LMU on Saturday afternoon at the Riverside Sports Complex, falling 7-1 to the Lions.
Blake Burzell made his first appearance on the hill for UC Riverside, going 1.2 innings before being relieved by Tucker Juline. Andrew Rivas and Anthony McFarland each went 2 for 3 on the afternoon, with McFarland playing UCR's only run in the sixth innings.
The junior led off the inning with a single through the left side before Tyler Weaver opposite field with his first double of the season. McFarland completed the trip home on a sacrifice fly from Jacob Shanks.
The Highlanders will host LMU once more in a doubleheader on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
