UC Riverside Split Doubleheader with LMU

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside split a doubleheader with Loyola Marymount on Sunday afternoon at the Riverside Sports Complex, taking game one 10-2 before falling 5-3 in game two.

Eric Marrujo was lights out on the bump in game one for UCR, going 8.0 innings with seven strikeouts to move to 2-0 on the early season. Jack Weeks cleaned up game one with an inning of work to finish the job.

The Highlander did their damage at the plate in the second and seventh innings, putting up five-spots in each frame. Andrew Rivas, Nick Poss and Alphonzo Mancinas combined to go 6 for 9 in the front end of the doubleheader with five runs and six RBIs - five of which went to Mancinas.

UCR ultimately lit up the Lions' pitching staff with all 10 runs coming on 10 hits with three doubles and a triple, while smart base running also contributed to the early season victory with three stolen bases, two by Jacob Shanks

UC Riverside went ahead first in game two as well, but the Lions charged ahead with two in the fourth before sealing the deal with three runs in the seventh.

Shanks' contributions came at the plate this time, going 2 for 3 with two runs and a walk against LMU. The redshirt senior led off the fourth inning with a full count walk before Andrew Rivas blasted UCR's first home run of the season to right center field.

UC Riverside will play its first televised contest on Tuesday, March 7 when the Highlanders host San Diego State at the Riverside Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
