Highlanders Through 18 Holes at Big West Championship

LA QUINTA, Calif. - UC Riverside opened the Big West Championship on Sunday afternoon at the La Quinta Country Club, shooting a 306 and sitting in ninth after 18 holes.Â
Nikolas Kittilson is UCR's leader in the clubhouse after shooting a 75 (+3) on Sunday. Kittilson, currently tied for 27th, was one stroke off his season low of 74 after shooting par on 11 of 18 holes. Mark Gao and Maddox Yi each recorded a pair of early birdies on the front nine.Â
Gao recorded birdies on five, six, eight and nine before shooting a 76 (+4) for the day, his lowest score of the spring and lowest since carding a 73 in round three of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invite.Â
UC Riverside will continue at the Big West Championship with round two from La Quinta on Monday.Â
