BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - UC Riverside fell in game one of a three-game set with CSU Bakersfield on Friday night at Hardt Field by a score of 6-3.
Mason Grace put the Highlanders on the board in the fourth inning with his eighth RBI in his last 10 games to bring Jayden Lopez home on a first-pitch single into left field. Grace also saw his season-high hit streak continue with the knock, now at nine games.
Jacob Shanks was also in the business of extending hot streaks in Friday's series opener. Shanks' on-base and hitting streaks both reached 13 before he later pushed UCR's second run across in the seventh on a groundout to short. Shanks' extended his streak with a fifth-inning single into left center before stealing base number 11 on the season.
Tyler Weaver has now plated a run in six of his last nine games after his second home run of the season in the seventh to cut the Roadrunners' lead in half.
UCR will resume the three-game series on Saturday night with a 6:05 p.m. first pitch on ESPN+.
