Box Score BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The UC Riverside Highlanders were downed 10-3 by the Cal State University Bakersfield (CSUB) Roadrunners in game two of a three-game Big West set.
Six scoreless innings from UC Riverside's pitching staff wasn't enough to hold Bakersfield at bay. A stifling eight-run fourth inning prevented the Highlanders from ever finding an edge over their opponents.
Bakersfield added two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, while UC Riverside bats struggled against CSUB defense for much of the game.
A two-out ninth inning offensive push put the Highlanders on the board, as they attempted to mount a comeback. Â
At the top of the order, Tyler Weaver got on base after being hit by a pitch. Anthony Mata hit a single deep into center field, advancing Weaver to third base. Capacete grounded out, allowing Mata to make his way to second base.Â
With two runners in scoring position and two outs, the Highlanders worked to find a way. Jacob Badawi hit a two-RBI single to right field, sending both Weaver and Mata home.Â
Badawi got himself into scoring position on a wild pitch, and made it home off a single from Keith Shelton. After three Highlander runs, the Roadrunners secured the final out, taking game two 10-3.Â
The Highlanders are back in action tomorrow, Sunday, May 14, for the third and final game of the series, with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 PM
