RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside's late rally was too little too late on Saturday night at the Riverside Sports Complex, as the Highlanders dropped a 10-6 game two to UC San Diego.
UCR put together a late rally for the second straight Big West series after last weekend's series opener at CSU Bakersfield.
The Highlanders saw a second straight three-hit individual performance against UC San Diego, this time coming off the bat of Jacob Shanks. The Corona native went 4 for 5 in game two with an RBI double, a run and a triple while coming a home run shy of the cycle.
Tyler Weaver now has an RBI in six of his last 11 contests and each of his last five Big West series after driving in Shanks from third following a triple in the bottom of the ninth. The Highlanders scored six unanswered runs - five in the final three innings that included an RBI triple from Anthony Mata in the eighth. Mata stretched his hit and on-base streak to five with the hit, while Jayden Lopez's on-base streak reached double digits with a five-pitch walk in the seventh.
UC Riverside will try to salvage a game from the Tritons in Sunday afternoon's series finale and Senior Day. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
