RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside wrapped up the 2023 home schedule on Sunday afternoon at the Riverside Sports Complex with a 7-4 defeat to UC San Diego. 

Anthony McFarland went 4 for 5 and Anthony Mata went 3 for 5 - both with a run - in the home finale. McFarland's single in the first gave UCR the early 1-0 lead after Jayden Lopez's eighth extra-base hit of the season and first since his game-tying RBI triple in game two against UC Santa Barbara.

McFarland has now put up multi-hit performances in five of his last 11 appearances while Mata recorded his third in his last four games. 

Tyler Weaver drove in a run for the second straight game with a two-out single in the eighth to bring the deficit back to three. Mason Grace was also clutch on Senior Day - but early on - belting a two-run RBI double to tie things at three as part of his 2-for-2 outing. 

UCR put runners on second and third in the ninth with a chance to make things interesting, but the Tritons were able to shut the door. 

UC Riverside will close out the 2023 season next weekend at UC Irvine. First pitch from Anteater Ballpark is scheduled for Thursday, May 25 at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
