Highlanders Tackle Two Meets as Big West Championships Get Underway

UC Riverside completed weekend one at the Big West Championship at Cal State Fullerton and on Saturday, an additional meet at the Oxy Invite in Los Angeles. 

FULLERTON, Calif. - Monea Jennings finished the heptathlon on the cusp of overall scoring, highlighted by a second-place finish in the 100m hurdles with a 14.22 for a new lifetime best and 947 points. Jennings also recorded a lifetime best in the javelin with a 25.39m. 

LOS ANGELES - Martin Billings took second in the 110m hurdles with a 14.66, matching his time from last year's Chris Rinne Twilight. 

D'Lainey Nakamoto and Evann Adams each ran the 100m and 200m dashes, with Nakamoto's 100m time (12.48) coming close to her Vince O'Boyle Classic time while matching it in the 200m (26.12). Adams' 100m dash bested his time from the Chris Rinne Twilight with an 11.28 while his 22.55 in the 200m was .05 second away from matching a lifetime best. 

Jordan Cornet ran her fastest 800m run since exactly one year to the day, running Saturday's event in 2:16.72 for a season high while Andrew Parkinson ran the event on the men's side in 1:58.69. 

Rounding out UC Riverside's time at Occidental was Ethan Samuel, who turned in a 9:51.62 in the 3000m steeplechase for his second straight sub-10 3000s and third in his last four runs.
