RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Daphane Mendez was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after leading UC Riverside to its first 1-0 conference start since 2018.
Mendez logged an assist against Portland State on Friday before exploding for a goal and two assists in the Highlanders' 3-1 win over Cal State Fullerton on Sunday at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium. The Murrieta native now has a goal involvement in three straight matches and four of UCR's last five heading into week two of conference action.
Mendez currently leads the Big West in assists per match (0.56) and total assists (5), both of which check into the top 40 in Division I.
UC Riverside wraps up a five-match homestand on Sunday, September 24 when Hawaii visits the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+ and tickets are available now at highlanderstickets.universitytickets.com.
