Highlanders Knock Off Hawai’i for Third Straight Win

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside made a statement in the Big West on Saturday night at the SRC Arena, handing Hawai'i its first Big West loss and snapping an eight-game skid to the Rainbow Wahine in a 66-58 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UC Riverside used a 7-0 run to set the tone early with a 10-6 advantage midway through the first quarter. UCR shot 42.8% in the first while forcing seven turnovers.
  • The Highlanders drained six triples in the first half, two apiece from Jordan Webster and RyAnne Walters. Webster solidified yet another double-digit scoring performance with a three at 4:26 of the second quarter.
  • Walters repositioned the needle forward on UCR's offense midway through the second half with a corner three to re-establish a three point lead. Webster added another triple to her stat line soon after.
  • UC Riverside took a 48-47 lead into the fourth quarter after Webster sank back-to-back triples inside the final 2:15 to regain momentum for UCR. The latter three with under a minute to play in the frame marked a new single-game high for the Highlanders, their 10th on the night.
  • UCR clamped down defensively in the fourth quarter, holding Hawai'i to just 23.1% shooting in the frame. Webster opened the fourth quarter with her sixth three of the night.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

  • Webster was one made three shy of tying the program's individual single-game record, going 6 for 9 from deep as part of her 28-point night and third straight 20-point performance.
  • UC Riverside has now won three straight after starting conference play 0-3.
  • UCR's 12 made threes were the most in a game this season and three shy of tying the program's single-game record. UC Riverside's .480 clip from deep was a new season high and the team's best long-range percentage since registering a .450 percentage back in non-conference play at Merrimack. Conversely on Saturday, the Highlanders held UH to just 4 of 21 from deep.
  • UC Riverside won the turnover battle for the sixth time in their last seven games
  • Matehya Bryant picked up her second double double of Big West play and fourth on the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, also adding six assists, four steals and a block.

UP NEXT

  • UC Riverside will keep it in the Inland Empire next week, hosting Cal State Bakersfield at the SRC Arena on Thursday, January 18 at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
