Men’s Tennis Drops First Two Matches at UNLV Quad

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - UC Riverside dropped a pair of 4-1 matches to New Mexico State and Weber State on Friday at the UNLV Quad, held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.  

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Ryan Huynh and Aarav Sane grabbed a doubles point with a 6-3 win on No. 2 in the morning match against New Mexico State.
  • The duo showed strong performances in singles as well. Sane went 2-0 after the Aggies with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win in No. 5 singles while Huynh forced a third set on No. 6. 
  • Justin Lamy and Hugo DeGrande went unfinished in singles play against New Mexico State.
  • Huynh and Sane again teamed up in doubles later in the day against Weber State and went unfinished on No. 2 after being tied at six. 
  • Lucas Ibarrondo Suarez picked up his first collegiate singles win on No. 3 by retirement. 
  • DeGrande went unfinished on No. 5 against the Wildcats after grinding out a 7-5 win in set one.
  • Joshua Roth went unfinished on No. 1 despite owning a 1-0 lead with a 6-6 tie in set two.  

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sane and Ibarrondo Suarez each picked up their first singles wins of the season. 
  • UC Riverside went unbeaten in doubles play twice on No. 2.
