RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside grabbed its first Big West win of the 2024 season on Saturday afternoon at the SRC Arena with a 3-1 win over Cal State Bakersfield.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• UC Riverside controlled the early goings of set one, leading wire to wire through the first media timeout while hitting .467 with a 90% sideout percentage. 
• The Highlanders later recorded the set one win with a block from Layla Hooks on set point, a fitting end to a frame where UCR held the Roadrunners to just .167 hitting. Kailyn Jager, Sydnee Rowe and Sophia Ewalefo all recorded three kills apiece for UC Riverside.  
• Bakersfield answered with a wire-to-wire set of its own in set two, leveling the match at 1-1 with a 25-15 win. Rowe led UCR with four kills in the frame.  
• UCR was the first to 15 in set three in efficient fashion, hitting .533 into the first media timeout.  
• The Highlanders captured set three after closing the frame on an 8-1 run, hitting .500 in the set with six assists from Makena Tong. The dominance continued with a 9-1 lead the usher in set four.  
• UCR closed the match with Trinity Sheridan's 11th kill of the night and hit .441 in set four.  

NOTABLES 

• UCR's 51 kills against the Roadrunners were the most in a match since putting down 55 in the Big West opener against UC San Diego, and the Highlanders' third most in a Big West match this season.  
• Prolific offense at the net resulted in UC Riverside's second highest hitting percentage of the season.  
• Jager was two kills shy of her first career double double, going for eight kills and 10 digs on Saturday.
