Women’s Volleyball Wins Thriller at Cal State Fullerton

Highlanders make it back-to-back wins with first reverse sweep since 2015

FULLERTON, Calif. – UC Riverside kept chopping through all five sets on Thursday night at Titan Gym, scrapping its way to a 3-2 win over Cal State Fullerton.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UCR hit .348 at the first media break of set one in an even keeled 15-14 affair. The breather was much needed on both sides after a fast-paced start to Thursday's contest. The Highlanders hit .225 in a narrow set one defeat.
  • After going down 2-0, UC Riverside battled back to force a fourth and fifth set with hitting clips of .289 and .265 in sets three and four, respectively.
  • A Sydnee Rowe kill was the final exclamation point in an 8-3 start to set three. The Highlanders led nearly wire to wire in the win-or-go-home frame.
  • UC Riverside finished set four on a 6-1 run after breaking away from a Titan squad that stayed within two points all frame.
  • Trinity Sheridan and Mia Delahoussaye registered four kills apiece in the decisive set five to help UCR climb the mountain with the dramatic 21-19 win.

NOTABLES

  • UC Riverside claimed its second straight win on the year and third straight against Cal State Fullerton.
  • Sets four and five featured a combined 28 ties and 15 lead changes.
  • Sheridan and Delahoussaye both smashed their career highs with 23 kills and 14 kills, respectively.
  • UC Riverside set program Division I record for a five-set match with 112 digs. The Highlanders' 74 kills were by far the most in a match this season and 15 shy of tying the program's Division I record for a five-set match.

UP NEXT

  • UC Riverside will look to continue the momentum on Saturday, October 26 with a 4:00 p.m. first serve against UC Irvine at the SRC Arena. Tickets are available now at highlanderstickets.universitytickets.com.
