UC Riverside Draws With CSUB 1-1

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The University of California, Riverside (UCR) Highlanders took one Big West point on the road with a 1-1 tie that resulted from a hard-fought battle against California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) Roadrunners on Sunday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Marieke ten Brink put the ball in the back of the lower left part of the net after a free kick resulting from the Bakersfield keeper receiving a red card.
  • In the last ten minutes of the game, the Roadrunners won a series of corner kicks that tested the Highlander defense, and CSUB ultimately scored the equalizer off the third Roadrunner corner kick in a row in the 81st minute of play.

NOTABLES

  • Defender Marieke ten Brink's goal was the first of her career as a Highlander. Ten Brink was in attack mode tonight, firing two shots (both on goal) at Bakersfield and contributing all 90 minutes she spent on the backline.
  • Mimi Dominguez fought to score for her team as well, sending three shots—two on target—at the Roadrunners keeper.
  • Allee Grashoff faced 17 shots in goal for UCR and made three saves.

UP NEXT

  • Big West play continues back at the UCR Soccer Stadium on Wednesday, October 13, with a 5:00 p.m. kickoff against CSUN scheduled on International Night.
