RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside kicked off its 2024 season and its play in the annual Lynn R. Miller Classic on Saturday afternoon at Amy S. Harrison Field with an 11-3 loss to No. 9 Oklahoma State. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• Nadia Witt opened the game with a leadoff walk before advancing to second on a sacrifice groundout to shortstop from Kat Montuya.  
• UC Riverside ended the Cowgirls' damage in the third with a 6-4-3 double play.  
• Lauryn Garewal grabbed UCR's first hit of the season in the third inning on a single up the middle after Zara Wasserman flew out to center. Garewal and Witt scored on an error in right field later in the frame.  
• UCR threatened in the fourth as well with runners on first and second, but a groundout to short ended a two-out rally.  
• Witt led off the fifth with a stand up double to center field. 

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS 

• Wasserman made her college softball debut in the bottom of the third with a hard-hit flyout to straightaway centerfield.

• UCR concludes the Lynn Russell Miller Classic on Sunday, February 11 with games against Portland State at 11:30 a.m. and Utah State at 2:00 p.m.
