RIVERSIDE, Calif. — UC Riverside Highlanders wrapped up its weekend series against UC Santa Barbara with a doubleheader Saturday at Amy S. Harrison Field.
GAME ONE: UC Santa Barbara 14, UC Riverside 4
UC Riverside (3-20) opened the day with a three-run third inning, but UC Santa Barbara pulled away for a 14-4 win in six innings.
The Gauchos built a 6-0 lead through the first two innings before the Highlanders answered in the bottom of the third. Eta Lauti was hit by a pitch to start the rally, and Aubrey Marx followed with a sacrifice bunt. After Rebeca Cabezas moved both runners up with another bunt, Trendee Kahunahana dropped down an RBI bunt single. Leilani Juan followed with an RBI double to left, and Jackie Alday added a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to 6-3.
Alday later homered to left field in the sixth for UC Riverside's final run of the game. Kahunahana and Juan each had two hits and an RBI, while Marx also finished with two hits. Alday drove in three runs, including the solo homer, as the Highlanders totaled nine hits.
GAME TWO: UC Santa Barbara 11, UC Riverside 1
In the second game of the day, UC Riverside (3-21) battled back with a first-inning run, but UC Santa Barbara completed the sweep with an 11-1 win in five innings.
The Gauchos scored six runs in the top of the first, but the Highlanders answered in the bottom half. Aubrey Marx walked, Trendee Kahunahana was hit by a pitch and Jackie Alday drew a walk to load the bases. Haley Saole then worked an RBI walk to bring home Kahunahana and put UC Riverside on the board.
Alday doubled in the third inning, and Isabel McElroy singled in the fourth to account for the Highlanders' two hits. UC Riverside also drew five walks in the contest.

The Highlanders are on the road this week as they open its series against Cal Poly with a double hearder on Saturday, March 28th, with first pitch set for 1pm.
