Late Three from Tattersall Seals Second Straight Road Win

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Riverside went up against a number of factors on Saturday afternoon at University Credit Union Center in Davis, but a late three from Wil Tattersall secured UCR's second straight road win and fourth straight overall with with a 67-61 victory at UC Davis.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Isaiah Moses turned up with a purpose early for an upstart UC Riverside squad, connecting on a three off an Aggie turnover to give the Highlanders an 8-2 lead.  
  • A balanced scoring attack helped UCR go into halftime with a 32-27 lead on the road, just one game removed from grabbing its first road win of the season.  
  • UC Riverside felt the heat in the second half with the Aggies creeping up behind them, but kept its composure and felt its confidence radiated from Barrington Hargress barreling through the Aggie defense for an and one.  
  • UCR went on a 6-0 run over 1:06 to take control back in a back-and-forth affair midway through the second half, capped by an emphatic dunk from Kaleb Smith. Smith scored six straight for the Highlanders late in the half as UCR pushed ahead for a 52-48 lead.  
  • Nate Pickens sank a pair of free throws at 2:16, pushing UCR to a 60-57 lead as the Highlanders continued to fend off UC Davis and push for another road win. Wil Tattersall sealed the deal with a three inside 30 seconds for the win.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS 

  • UCR has now slain two of the top three teams in the Big West in a week's time after downing first place UC Irvine last Saturday in Riverside.
  • UC Riverside grabbed its second consecutive road win and fourth win overall after entering the week winless away from the SRC Arena.  
  • Kyle Owens was one rebound shy of his fourth double double of the season, but was one of four Highlanders in double figures scoring on the afternoon. Hargress, who led the double-digit scoring crew with 18, scored 11 of those in the second half.  
  • UCR outscored the Aggies in the paint 20-18 after halftime.
