UC Riverside Falls in Big West Quarterfinal

HENDERSON, Nev. - UC Riverside bowed out of the 2024 Big West Championship on Thursday afternoon at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nevada, with an 83-75 overtime loss to Long Beach State.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Makayla Jackson led UC Riverside with 25 points, also hitting three triples. Jordan Webster ended her college career with a bang to the tune of 20 points and 15 rebounds. 
  • UCR shot 47.6% in the second quarter to Long Beach State's 23.1%, outscoring the Beach 23-10 in the second period. Jackson scored 12 of her 25 points in the second.  
  • The Highlanders went down by as many as 15 in the opening frame but started the second quarter on an 11-1 run  
  • UCR finally overtook Long Beach State on a fastbreak layup from Jackson to take its first lead of the afternoon at 27-26 with 3:41 to play until halftime, going into the break with a 33-31 lead. 
  • Neither team gained more than a three-point lead in a hotly contested third quarter while UCR shot 57.1% in the third. 
  • The game's competitiveness picked up overall in the second half with 10 ties and 10 lead changes.  

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Jackson ended her first year at UC Riverside with two 20-point performances in her last four overall after just one in the previous 27. Webster (20 points, 15 rebounds) and Matehya Bryant (12 points, 11 rebounds) put up double doubles in the same game for the second time this season.  
  • UCR's 12-game turnaround from last season is the largest in the program's Division I history.  
  • Thursday was just the fourth time this year that the Highlanders shot 90% from the free throw line and second time this week.  
  • UCR finished the afternoon with 42 rebounds, the second most in a game this season.
