Baseball Drops Game Two to Cal Poly

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside (9-17, 0-7 Big West) evenly distributed its eight hits on Saturday night at the Riverside Sports Complex but fell 6-2 to Cal Poly (17-12, 8-3 Big West) in game two of a three-game series.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Anthony Mata recorded UCR's first hit of the evening on a single up the middle in the first before stealing second.  
  • The Highlanders loaded the bases in the fourth inning and capitalized with a sacrifice fly from Andrew Rivas to score Cole Koniarsky.  
  • Cal Poly quickly put a runner on third in the ensuing top of the fifth, but Matthew Flores fanned the flames and retired the side with no damage from the Mustangs.  
  • Sean Blandino tripled on his first pitch to lead off the Highlander fifth, and Mata brought him home on a single. 
  • UCR put together a one-out rally in the ninth on the back of Bubba Rocha's double into right field. Zach Tallerman moved Rocha over to third with a sacrifice fly but UC Riverside wasn't able to push a run home. 

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Mata's 2 for 4 performance was the senior's sixth multi-hit game of the season.
