WASHINGTON D.C. (August 30, 2024) - UC Riverside kicked off the 2024 women's volleyball season on Friday's opening day of the DC Challenge with a 3-0 George Washington at the Charles E. Smith Center.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• UCR and George Washington were knotted at 11 apiece early in set one with a kill each from Trinity Sheridan, Brianna Bowyer, Kailyn Jager and Sophia Ewalefo. Sheridan led UCR in set one with five kills while Beatriz Silva recorded four assists and four digs.
• UC Riverside let its blocking take them on a 3-0 run to cut an eight-point deficit to five in set two. The Highlanders recorded three blocks in set two and continued to battle with back-to-back points on GW set points in sets one and two. 
• The Highlanders enjoyed their best hitting percentage in set three at a .179 clip. 

NOTABLES 

• Sheridan led UCR in her debut with 10 kills on 26 swings.  
• Beatriz Silva recorded the match's only double double with 18 assists and 11 digs.

• UCR continues the DC Challenge on Saturday with two games in the nation's capital, opening the day with a 9:00 a.m. first serve at Georgetown then finishing at 3:00 p.m. at American.
