Individual Performances Shine on Day Two in DC

Highlanders play it tough with Georgetown, American

WASHINGTON D.C. (August 31, 2024) - UC Riverside closed out the month of August with 3-1 losses to Georgetown and American on Saturday at the DC Challenge.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Sydnee Rowe accounted for three of UCR's first five kills against the Hoyas in Saturday's opener. The Highlanders fended off a set point for the second day in a row before conceding set one, but not before hitting .219 with 13 kills to match the Hoyas.  
  • UCR was hitting .182 in the second set when the media break briefly halted a 4-0 scoring run from the Highlanders. UC Riverside staved off a pair of set points from Georgetown before Beatriz Silva put down the decisive kill to tie the match at one set apiece.  
  • UC Riverside inched closer to hitting .200 in sets one and two each against American, but finally broke through with a .333 clip in set three to force a fourth set.  
  • The Highlanders went back and forth with American in set four and completed a 5-0 run capped by a kill from Silva to tie the set at 20. 

NOTABLES 

  • Carissa Wiles set a career high twice on Saturday with a pair of 14-kill performances. The sophomore hit .217 for the day between the two matches.  
  • Silva and Makena Tong each put in at least 10 assists against American, combining for 36 against the Eagles.  
  • Trinity Sheridan recorded the only double double for either side with 12 kills and 12 digs against the Eagles.
