Highlanders Win Thriller, 4-3 Over Eastern Michigan

RIVERSIDE, Calif.- The Highlanders welcomed Eastern Michigan to the SRC Tennis Courts today for a morning match. UCR was on a three match skid and looked to bounce back before hitting the road to Arizona next week.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UCR took the doubles point as Ramey Yu and Kei Kato took their match 6-3 and Olivia McIntosh-Adams and Crystal Kim took their match, 6-3.
  • In singles action Kei Kato and Crystal Kim both won their singles matches, putting UCR one match away from taking the contest.
  • Three singles matches went the distance. With all eyes on Niki Shahbazi's match and Ramey Yu's match. Both these three set thrillers went to a third set tie break.
  • Shahbazi came up just short and Yu was able to secure the final point and the win.
COACH JOHANSSON ON THE WIN
  • "Very exciting win for the ladies today. We were up 3-1 and 5-2 second set for Ramey. Eastern Michigan came back from 3-2 down and we had two matches going into third tiebreaker and needed to win one of them. Ramey clinched it for us with a 7-1 tiebreak score, this was a really big team win for the girls. I'm proud of them."
UP NEXT
  • The Highlanders head to Arizona next week for matches against Grand Canyon and Ottawa. Both matches are on March 5.
