Highlanders Sweep Doubleheader to Open Bakersfield Series

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside put an emphatic start on its home Big West season on a rainy Friday at Amy S. Harrison Field with 2-1 and 18-2 victories over Cal State Bakersfield.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UCR started scoring early on Friday with a two-out RBI single from Haley Saole in the first inning of game one. Bakersfield immediately retaliated with a run in the second.
  • UC Riverside finished the game one scoring with an RBI single from Kamryn Davis in the third.
  • Leilani Juan kicked off game two with a two-run homer to left field before the Highlanders loaded the bases with two hit batters and a four pitch walk.
  • UCR added to the lead with back-to-back walks, ultimately putting up five runs in the first.
  • UC Riverside continued to put the hurt on Bakersfield in the second inning with three runs, both on a pair of homers. UCR piled on the offense with a three-run double to left from Eta Lauti.
  • Bakersfield erased the goose egg in the third with a bloop single into left field and added one more a little later.
  • Brooke Perez tossed UCR's second complete game of the day with four strikeouts.

NOTABLES

  • Maddie Heinlin recorded her fourth complete game in her last five outings in game one, tallying four strikeouts while dropping her ERA to a season-low 3.15.
  • UCR posted 15 runs against the Roadrunners for the second game in their last three. The Highlanders' 10-run second inning in game two was the program's largest inning since 2022 in a 16-0 win at Cal Poly.
