DAVIS, Calif. – The Highlanders and the Aggies played game two of a three game set this afternoon on the campus of UC Davis. The Aggies won game one last night, 9-3 with a big second inning.
This afternoon the Highlanders sent
Kurt Marton (1-1) to the mound to try and snap their current three game skid.
UCR struck first in the top of the second on a RBI single by
Robert Pitts, scoring
Landon Nunes. The Highlanders took a 1-0 lead to the bottom of the second.
That's where UCR ran into trouble again. The Highlanders surrendered five runs in the inning, after they gave up seven last night. Two singles, a bases loaded walk and a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded put the Aggies up 5-1.
The Highlanders would not score again until the top of the eighth when
David Whittle singled to left scoring
Jayden Lopez making it 8-2 UC Davis.
The Aggies pushed two more across in the bottom of the inning and that was all they needed to secure their second win over the Highlanders and the series. UCR looks to leave Northern California on a high note tomorrow before returning home to play Cal State Fullerton next weekend.
