Crosstown Showdown Ends In Draw
9/27/2025 12:16:00 AM | Men's Soccer
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Highlanders and the Lancers got together for the Crosstown Showdown at the UCR Soccer Stadium. The crowd of over 1,000 strong was treated to a great game.
The Lancers kept possession to start the game keeping the Highlanders on defense.
UCR had the first great chance to score when Edward Castro stepped up for a penalty kick in the 23'. Castro went lower left corner and Landers' keeper Hugo Do Rego made a great diving save.
Castro had another opportunity in the 27' minute as a great pass by Eric Martinez to Castro made it 1-0 UCR. For Castro it was his third goal on the season.
The Lancers pushed at the end of the first, but the Highlanders kept it at 1-0.
At the start of the second half, the Highlanders were the aggressors.
Both teams had chances but could not get anything on net.
Then the rain came, and the intensity increased, too. In the 79' the Lancers got the equalizer when Blake D'Agostino beat Andrew Hermosillo in the upper left corner just under the crossbar.
And that is how the game ended. For the third straight year the Lancers and Highlanders played to a draw.
Next up for UCR is the Big West Conference opener at home against CSUN. That will be Wednesday night at 7PM.
