Box Score

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - UC Riverside headed to Cal State Bakersfield for a late morning match against the Roadrunners in the final non-conference match of the year. Looking to keep the momentum going from their 2-1 win over Gonzaga on Saturday night, the Highlanders rallied to score the only goal of the second half to tie the match, 2-2.

The Roadrunners got on the board first when in the 32' they scored on a PK by Charlie Cazares.

Then in the 37' the Highlanders struck. Adrian Diaz put one in off his left foot to even the match, 1-1. For Diaz it was his first goal of the season.

Cal State Bakersfield then took the lead towards the end of the first half when they scored on a its second PK of the half. This time it was Oshea Foster with the goal in the 44' to give the Roadrunners the lead.

It took a little more than six minutes for either team to record a shot in the second half, before Jackson D'Alessandro shot one just wide of the target.

The Roadrunners then recorded the next three shots and Andrew Hermosillo came up with the save on the third shot.

On UCR's second shot of the half, Wyatt Ponting scored his fourth goal of the year and Ermias Yohannes notched his second assist of the year. Ponting now shares the team lead in goals with Tarek Hamideh, who scored his fourth goal of the year against the 'Zags on Saturday night.

As the Roadrunners applied pressure offensively late in the match, the Highlanders' defense held firm. That included the final ten minutes of the match when Cal State Bakersfield posted three shots and one corner.

With the draw the Highlanders end non-conference play with a 3-5-3 mark.

Next up for the Highlanders is San Diego State and the first of two must win games for the Highlanders. The Aztecs, who play later today, enter Wednesday with a evening tilt against Utah Valley. The Aztecs enter tonight's contest with a 3-7-6 overall record and 1-0-3 in conference. UC Riverside then closes out the regular season at Cal Poly on Halloween night. That game could loom large if the Highlanders can beat the Aztecs on Saturday at 7PM.
