Highlanders and Tritons Play to 2-2 Draw
10/7/2026 10:50:00 PM | Men's Soccer
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Highlanders hosted UC San Diego tonight at the UCR Soccer Stadium in the first ever Pac-12 Conference home match. When time expired the match ended in a draw.
The Highlanders' offense started by recording three shots in the first 16 minutes of the match but they could not find the back of the net. That changed in the 20' when Tarek Hamideh scored his third goal of the season off a beautiful set up by both Andrija Radonjic and Adrian Diaz.Â
The first half ended with UC Riverside ahead 1-0 and in control of the match. UCR outshot UCSD 9-2 in the first.
The second started with a couple of quick shots by UC San Diego, but nothing too dangerous. Oren Stuppel had the best look, but Giancarlo Sagredo made a diving save.
Wyatt Ponting put the Highlanders up 2-0 in the 65' from Diaz and Xavier Smith. This was Ponting's third goal of the year and Diaz recorded his second assist of the match.
The Tritons got on the board in the 80' off the foot of Ryan Namdar. He then followed up in the 87' on a penalty kick to knot the match up at two. The foul in the box went to VAR for review, but the call was upheld.
Next up for UC Riverside is the Crosstown Showdown at California Baptist on Saturday night. Kick off is at 7PM.
