RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The UC Riverside Highlanders matched CSUN shot-for-shot in a high-scoring second half and pulled away late for a 95-84 win.
Marqui Worthy Jr. scored a career-high 38 points to lead the Highlanders, going 12-for-20 from the floor, 3-for-7 from three and 11-for-13 at the line. Andrew Henderson added 17 points, six rebounds and three assists, while Osiris Grady posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go with five assists. Ben Waller gave UC Riverside a lift off the bench with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting, including 2-for-3 from deep.
UC Riverside led 39-32 at the break after holding CSUN to 31.4 percent shooting in the first half. The Highlanders then turned the game into an offensive showcase after halftime, scoring 56 points in the second period and finishing at 44.0 percent overall while hitting nine 3-pointers.
The Matadors shot 55.3 percent in the second half and scored 58 points in the paint, but UC Riverside answered repeatedly with timely perimeter makes and trips to the free-throw line.
The Highlanders also made the difference on extra possessions and at the stripe, scoring 18 points off turnovers and converting 20-of-25 free throws.
UC Riverside will travel to Hawai'i on Thursday, March 5, for its final matchup of the season, with tipoff set for 9 p.m. PT.
