RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside dropped a 6-2 decision to North Dakota State on Wednesday afternoon at Amy S. Harrison Field.
The Bison opened the scoring early with a solo home run in the second at-bat of a blistering afternoon, and UCR put two runners on base in the home half of the first and second innings.
NDSU extended the lead in the third, but Hailey King erased the shutout with an RBI double to left center to score Jen Ragay. Rebeca Cabezas drew the Highlanders closer with a first-pitch RBI single in the fourth, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
Lauren Mendez relieved Emory Cheng in the circle in the fifth and got UCR out of a jam. Mendez worked with runners on second and third before forcing NDSU into a 4-3 putout.
The Bison put Wednesday's midweek tilt out of reach with three runs across the sixth and seventh innings.
UCR returns to action this Friday, March 13, for a doubleheader against Long Beach State starting at 1:00 pm from Amy S. Harrison Field. Tickets are available now at GoHighlanders.com/tickets.
