RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UC Riverside hosted San Francisco in game two of a three game set at the Riverside Sports Complex this afternoon. A grand slam for the Dons in the second inning proved too much to over come as USF won 6-4.
Matthew O'Brien got the start for UCR looking for this first win of the year. A bumpy second inning as he walked the bases loaded with two outs. Then San Francisco's Myles Kallinger jumped on O'Brien's first pitch and hit it over the left field wall for the grand slam.Â
Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth the Highlanders scored twice. The first run came when Lucas Bonham was hit with the bases loaded and Manoah Chapman scored on a wild pitch.
In the sixth inning the Highlanders scored another run on an RBI groundout by Jarren Sanderson. For the second straight inning the Highlanders left two runners aboard.
Leading 5-3 in the top of the seventh the Dons were able to get one of the runs back on a passed ball that allowed Jayden Garrison to score.Â
O'Brien pitched his longest out of of the season going 6.2 innings. Adrian Blanchet followed and Ryan Higgins came in for the final 2.1 innings.Â
Next up is the series finale tomorrow at 1PM from the Riverside Sports Complex.Â
