CSUB Evens Series With Highlanders

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Yesterday the bats caught fire, today the Roadrunners shut out the Highladers, 10-0. It was the second time this season that UC Riverside failed to score a run. UCR hit the ball hard at times, but right at the defense. Cal State Bakersfield needed only two pitchers to hold UCR's offense down.
Ryan Higgins got the start for the Highlanders and went two innings giving up one run and five hits. He took the loss and dropped to 1-6 on the year. Joshua Martinez was the only other Highlander to go two innings, the other five pitchers just went one frame.
Matt Hudson had the quickest inning of work for UCR, throwing only seven pitches and retired all three batters faced.
Offensively, UCR scratched out six hits. Shortstop Tyler Gordon was the only Highlander with a multi-hit game, which was his fourth of the year. His last two hit game came against CSUN on April 10. In total the Highlanders left six on base, compared to the 12 left on base by the Roadrunners.
Cal State Bakersfield scored first and that came in the second inning. It was the fourth inning, however, that broke the game open and put it out of reach. The Roadrunners scored five times on three hits, two hit-by-pitches and one walk.Â
The series finale is set for tomorrow afternoon at 1PM.
