Eddie Hill

Eddie Hill joined UC Riverside’s men’s basketball coaching staff in October of 2022 from South Dakota as an assistant coach and enters his 11th season at the Division I level. Hill was elevated to Associate Head Coach in May of 2024.

While coaching here at UC Riverside, Hill played a pivotal role in the development and success of the men's basketball program. He managed all aspects of program operations, including fundraising efforts like the “Raise The Riv” Golf Tournament, general roster management and NIL allocation, and served as a liaison for NCAA compliance and training staff. On the court, Hill specialized in rebounding and post player development while contributing to practice planning, game preparation, opponent scouting, and in-game coaching.

His efforts helped UCR achieve a school-record 22 wins in 2023 and 21 wins in 2025—the second-most in program history—along with a record 14 Big West Conference wins in both seasons. Under his tenure as Associate Head Coach, the program earned major conference accolades, including 2023 Big West Coach of the Year honors for Head Coach Mike Magpayo and Freshman of the Year awards for Lachlan Olbrich (2023) and Barrington Hargress (2024). Hill also helped develop several players who went on to sign professional contracts, including Zyon Pullin (NBA), Flynn Cameron, Lachlan Olbrich, and Ben Griscti (all NBL).

Prior to being on the South Dakota sideline, Hill served three seasons as the head coach of the ProSkills 17U Nike EYBL team in Dallas, Texas, where he handled all opponent scouting, game plan creation, substitutions, and in-game adjustments. In 2021, Hill led ProSkills to a 12-1 EYBL record and Quarterfinal appearance in the Nike Peach Jam. Hill was also named Head Basketball Coach and General Manager for the 2018-19 Plano Mighty Kings in the ABA.

In 2002, Hill became an Executive Recruiter at Kaye/Bassman Intl., reaching the position of Managing Partner prior to starting and managing his own executive search firm since 2006.

Prior to 2002, Hill spent seven seasons as an assistant coach at Portland, UTEP, San Jose State State and CSUN. As assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Portland, Hill brought in a 2001 Pilots recruiting class that ranked first in the West Coast Conference.

This was Hill's second stint in Portland after serving as an assistant coach for the Pilots’ first-ever WCC Tournament championship and first NCAA Tournament in 37 years for the 1994-95 season.
In two seasons at UTEP as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, Hill led the Miners to a 23-9 record and a second round appearance in the 2001 NIT. His 2000 recruiting class at UTEP ranked 36th nationally by Hoop Scoop. Hill also led nationally ranked recruiting classes at San Jose State in 1999 (ranked 17th) and CSUN in 1997 (ranked 35th). Hill got his start in coaching at Portland in 1995, assisting with on-campus recruiting activities and post player development.

Hill enjoyed a decorated playing career at Washington State from 1990-94 under current Houston head coach Kelvin Sampson, where Hill captained the Cougars to a 1992 NIT berth and the 1994 NCAA Tournament. As a senior, he set career (233) and single-season (83) program records for 3-point field goals made and finished his career eighth on Washington State’s all-time scoring list.
Hill was named a Pac-10 Player of the Week as a senior and was WSU’s recipient of the 1993 "Jack Friel Defensive Player of the Year" and 1991 "George Raveling Rookie of the Year" awards. His WSU career 3-point field goals record was broken in 2011 by current Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson.

Hill earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Washington State in 1994. Eddie and his wife of 29 years, Simone, have three sons: Darius, Marcus, and Tyus.

Darius, who played baseball and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management at West Virginia University, was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2019. Marcus was a student-athlete of the St. Edwards men’s basketball team in Austin, Texas and Tyus graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of North Texas with a degree in Broadcast Journalism in 2024.
