Troy Hammel enters his third season on the UC Riverside men's basketball coaching staff in 2024-25 following a return to the Inland Empire in 2022-23.
Hammel, who served as a graduate assistant at UCR in 2019-20, made his way back to Southern California from his position as video coordinator for Rice men's basketball following a year as an assistant coach at Colorado Christian. Hammel's previous stint with UCR involved helping with player development, statistical organization and video breakdown while co-directing the team’s summer camp.
Hammel played at Merrimack College where he was a three-year starter, ranking 28th all-time in school history in scoring while being the Warriors' career leader in three-point percentage and free throw percentage.
Hammel earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2016 while earning Dean’s List and Cum Laude academic honors. In 2019, he completed his master’s degree in Education from UC Riverside.
