Kevin Esparza joined the UC Riverside soccer staff as assistant coach in the summer of 2002.
Esparza has an extensive coaching background. He was an assistant under Eddie Carrillo at Chapman University from 1995-98 and was an assistant and co-head coach at Orange High School from 1994-97, winning a CIF Championship in 1995-96.
Most recently, he served as head coach and scout for Southern California Olympic Development program, a position he has held since 1998.
In 2001 he was an assistant coach on the Southern California 1985 boys team that won the ODP National Championship. He has traveled with ODP teams to England, Germany and Spain, where his teams played against the top club teams in Europe.
Esparza competed collegiately at Chapman, where he is completing his degree in sociology/criminal justice, and at Santa Ana College. He was named All-Orange Empire Conference at Santa Ana in 1991-92 and was Chapman's Rookie of the Year in 1993.
A 1990 graduate of Orange High School, he was named All-CIF First Team once and All-League three times.
In his spare time, Esparza enjoys playing golf, going to the beach and traveling. He is a member of the Cal-South Coaches Education Program.
He is single and resides in Orange.
