Assistant Coach Andy Hein joined the Highlanders in 2019 after coaching stints with his alma materĀ Pepperdine, Cal Baptist, and most recently UC Irvine. Hein has coached both men's and women's programs and brings a lengthy resume as both a coach and a player. He brings with him years of experience in Southern California volleyball as well as a season of Big West action.
The middle blocker played at Pepperdine from 2003-06, earning AVCA All-American honors twice and helping the Waves capture a national championship in 2005. He earned All-MPSF honors as a senior and junior, while garnering AVCA Player of the Week honors twice in 2005.Ā
Hein remains in the Pepperdine record books, ranking first all-time with a .483 career hitting percentage and ranks first and second for his single-season hitting percentages for the rally scoring era with a .529 in 2005 and a .516 in 2006.Ā He also ranks first and second in the record books for hitting percentage in a single match with a .909 (10-0-11) mark against Long Beach State in 2005 and a .882 (16-1-17) percentage against UC San Diego in 2004.
After graduation, Hein was a member of the USA Menās National Team from 2006-13, collecting six medals, including gold at the 2010 FIVB World Championship Qualifier for NORCECA Group F and 2008 Pan American Cup.
Hein also played for Fidia Padova Volleyball Club, Spacers Toulouse Volleyball Club and Hypo Tirol Volleyball Team in Italy, France and Austria from 2012-15.
He has also worked with the Gold Medal Squared Volleyball Camps, Keegan Cook Volleyball Camp, USA High Performance Volleyball Camp and the Marv Dunphy Volleyball Camp.Ā
Hein graduated from Pepperdine with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2006.Ā He then went on to earn a Master of Business Administration from DeVry University Keller Graduate School in 2015 with an emphasis in General Management and Finance.
Andy and his wife Kate have a daughter Marilyn.
