Matthew Musselman

Matthew Musselman enters his first season as an assistant coach with the UC Riverside men’s basketball program in 2025–26. Respected for his expertise in recruiting, scouting, and player development, Musselman has contributed to the success of several top-tier college basketball programs and played a pivotal role in recruiting and shaping the careers of numerous professional players.

Born in Atlanta Georgia, raised in the Northern California Bay Area / San Diego, Matthew Musselman is a rising figure in collegiate basketball coaching. He comes from a coaching background where both his father (Eric Musselman) and grandfather (Bill Musselman) were head coaches at the NBA and Division One level. He is known for his strong work ethic, recruiting tactics, and strategic understanding of the game. 

Most recently, Musselman served as a graduate assistant for the University of Southern California Men's Basketball program during the 2024–2025 season under head coach Eric Musselman, where he played a key role in game preparation, player development, and recruiting operations. He assisted USC bringing in the #7 ranked transfer class and #34 ranked high school class which includes five star McDonald's All American Alijah Arenas. Prior to USC he worked as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Arkansas during the 2023-2024 season where the Razorbacks spent four weeks ranked in the top 25. 

Holding a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of San Diego and a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from the University of Southern California, Musselman brings a well-rounded academic background that complements his on-court experience. With a clear comfort level in live training environments, Musselman is uniquely equipped to contribute in both strategic and hands-on coaching roles.

His foundation in elite programs, coupled with his deep commitment to growth and precision, position him as a valuable asset to our coaching staff here at UC Riverside.
