Irvine, CA—The Big West announced today that UC Riverside all-time digs leader Maddie Hubbell was named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention Team, and outside hitter Mickayla Sherman was named to the All-Freshman Team.
Hubbell, a senior from Bakersfield, became the program's all-time digs leader with a 17 dig performance at UC Davis on October 20th (story). She finished her career with 1,695 digs, good enough for a spot in eighth in the Big West record books.
She posted a season-high 30 digs in a 3-1 victory over Southern Utah on opening weekend (
box score), and was named
Big West Defensive Player of the Week.
Hubbell, who was First Team All-Conference a year ago, registered 20-plus digs in seven matches during the 2016 campaign. She ranked fifth in the league with 4.24 kills per set.
Mickayla Sherman from Antioch, CA led the team with 312 total kills, 3.06 per set. Those figures rank 10th and 11th in the Big West respectively.
She logged a career-high 26 kills and had 11 digs in a 3-1 home victory over UC Santa Barbara (

recap). For her performance she received the program's first Big West
Freshman of the Week award.
The Bay Area native had double-digit kills in 17 of UCR's 28 matches, and on November 4, 2016 she tallied a 12 kill-12 dig double-double, while serving a career-high six aces (

recap).
