San Francisco 1, UC Riverside 0 - Box Score
Riverside—USF forward Jodie Tanga’s goal in the 62nd minute put a halt to UCR’s shutout streak, and proved to be the winning goal in UC Riverside’s 1-0 loss to the University of San Francisco Dons at the Lower Fields on Sunday.
USF forward Meghan Daly centered from the left corner and Highlander goalie Kristin Cocks tried to intercept and missed, allowing the ball to travel to Tanga who scored for a 1-0 USF advantage. The goal was the first that UCR had surrendered in 525 minutes, ending the Highlanders’ five game shutout streak.
Tanga’s goal proved to be the difference as UCR (6-4), could not take advantage of countless scoring opportunities. In the eighth minute, Kerri Fahres fed a wide-open Lisa Jensen on a breakaway. Jensen, in a one-on-one situation with the USF goalkeeper, hit the post.
In the 44th minute, Renee Scachetti kicked an 18-footer that hit off the crossbar. USF (6-1-1) goalie Stephanie Beall knocked down a centering pass in the 55th minute that landed right on the foot of Ashlee Stevens whose open look missed right. Stevens later fed Tracey Schuster with a great pass right in front of the net that Schuster struck high late in the second half.
Beall finished with four saves and Cocks finished with six.
The Highlanders will return to action on the road at the University of the Pacific in a Big West Conference match on Friday, October 4 at 7:00 PM.
