The UC Riverside Highlanders cruised to a 51-point victory over the visiting Southern Oregon University Raiders, defeating the NAIA school 108-57 at the Student Recreation Center in Riverside Saturday.
UCR moved to 2-4 on the season and Southern Oregon fell to 6-9.
UCR's Nate Carter led six Highlanders in double figures with a season-high tying 18 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Senior forward Kevin Butler had 16 points, junior guard Rickey Porter had 14 points, hitting a game-high four three pointers, senior guards Mark Peters and Ted Bell each had 13 points and junior forward Vili Morton had 12 points.

The second half was more of the same as UCR outscored the Raiders 55-29. The highlight of the second half came when Coach John Masi cleared his bench, sending in senior James Guth, sophomore guard Dedrick Bates and junior forward Mike Ferrera. Bates and Ferrera both scored, while Guth recorded a block that brought the crowd to it's feet.
The win marked the most points for a UCR team since they defeated San Francisco State 108-69 on 2/12/00. It was the first 100-point game since December 27, 2001 when the Highlanders beat Sacramento State 100-66. The 51-point margin of victory tied for the seventh highest total of all time, while the team's 14 three pointers were a season-high.
The Highlanders return to action on Monday, December 22nd against St. Mary's. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. PST.
