UCR Women's Soccer Drops 4-1 Conference Decision To Cal Poly
10/5/2008 11:07:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Cal Poly 4, UC Riverside 1 - Box Score
Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team dropped its second Big West match of the season on Sunday afternoon losing 4-1 to Cal Poly. The four goals were the most the Highlanders have given up in conference play since a 4-0 loss to UC Santa Barbara on October 7, 2007, and dropped UCR's record to 5-7-1, 0-2-0. The Mustangs improved to 7-6-0, 2-0-0.
Cal Poly jumped on top early as Ashley Vallis drove down the right sideline and found Morgan Miller in the middle of the box for her third goal of the season with 6:42 gone in the first period. Miller found the back of the net again with 23:15 gone on a header to make it 2-0.
Early in the second Whitney Sisler scored her first goal of the season to stake the Mustangs to a 3-0 lead. The Highlanders got on the scoreboard with 33 minutes and change left in the second off of an Ashley Parks (Etiwanda, CA) header. Although they tried to force the issue on offense for the remainder of the period, UCR couldn't find the net again. Cal Poly added an insurance goal with less than 17 minutes remaining for the 4-1 final.
Conference play continues for the Highlanders this weekend as they travel to UC Davis (Friday, Oct. 10 at 3 pm) and Pacific (Sunday, Oct. 12 at 12 pm).
