Three Second-Half Goals Cost Highlanders

The UC Riverside men's soccer team had designs on its second Big West Conference win of the year Saturday afternoon, but couldn't hold on to a 1-0 lead at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium eventually falling to Cal State Northridge, 3-1.
Following a scoreless first half, Joel Crompton (Pleasanton, CA) got the scoring started for UCR (4-13-1, 1-7-0) off a penalty kick with 7:41 gone in the second. Nate Patterson was taken down in the Matadors (7-6-4, 3-2-3) box moments before, setting up the PK. It was the eighth goal of the season for Crompton who leads the Highlanders and ranks third in the Big West in that category.
It didn't take long for Northridge to pick up the equalizer, however, as Christopher Leiva found Sung Kim for his fifth goal of the year just over six minutes later. The Matadors picked up the go-ahead score less than three minutes later on a header by Nicholas Hamilton. Northridge added an insurance goal with just under 11 minutes remaining in the match on a Cameron Sims' header for the final 3-1 score.
The Highlanders have two matches remaining on the 2008 docket – a November 5 road tilt at UC Irvine and a home match November 8 vs. Cal State Fullerton. Both matches are at 3 pm.
