Irvine, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team dropped its fifth straight match Wednesday as UC Irvine's Matt Murphy scored two goals in the first 9:07, and the 11th-ranked Anteaters picked up the 3-1 victory.
Gray Bailey found Murphy in the box off of a throw in with 2:47 gone in the match, and Murphy pushed the ball past UCR keeper Ryan Schmitz to put Irvine up 1-0. Murphy's second score of the game, and 10th of the season, came on an unassisted breakaway down the left side of the field, that he uncorked from outside the box.
Rafael Macedo gave the Anteaters a 3-0 lead with 6:13 gone in the second period scoring on a through ball from Irving Garcia.
Cesar Diaz put the Highlanders on the board with 11:20 to go in the match off a Zach Walker pass for his fourth goal of the season.
UC Riverside ends its regular season this weekend as the Highlanders host Cal State Fullerton.
