Box Score

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Highlanders hosted CSUN at the UCR Soccer Stadium in non-conference action. Looking to rebound off the defeat at CBU on Saturday, the Matadors scored twice in the second to top the Highlanders, 2-1.

In the 8', Adrian Villafranco recorded the first shot of the match for either side and it was saved by CSUN's Bryan Castenada. The next shot from either team came nearly ten minutes later when Tito Oyewo missed the target wide.

In the 39' Yashir Mimosa entered the match for UCR and it was his first action as a Highlander since late August when UCR visited Grand Canyon. That's because for the previous six weeks he suited up for the Ugandan 20U team in international competition.

The first half ended up 0-0 with neither team taking control.

The second half got off to a raucous start when Noa Wada scored his first career goal for the Highlanders in the 47'. It was set up beautifully by both Ermias Yohannes and Ace Tendale as Wada redirected it into the net.

Everything looked to be going UCR's way until CSUN tied things up at one when Kayvon Monfared put one past Andrew Hermosillo off a corner kick. Then, ten minutes later, CSUN took the lead when Jorge Solorzano scored on a penalty kick giving the Matadors a 2-1 lead.

The Highlanders fought and had chances in the closing minutes of the match but they could not capitalize on their chances.

UC Riverside is back at it on Saturday night when they host Gonzaga in Pac-12 action. Game time is 7PM and you can see it on ESPN+.
